Mermaid Bag – Art Tote for Coastal Dreamers
The Mermaid Bag is a wearable artwork designed for sunseekers, surf lovers, and slow travellers who carry stories with them. Featuring Ladies of the Deep, an original illustration by Australian artist Brittany Ferns, this canvas tote captures the magic of feminine fluidity, sea creatures, and mythic beauty—an ode to Øy, meaning “island” in Norwegian.
With its natural cotton tone, oversized shape, and long handles for easy over-shoulder wear, it’s made for days that start with saltwater and end under starlight. Evoking sketchbook mornings in Uluwatu, afternoon strolling in Higashiyama district of Kyoto, and golden hour wanders in Byron Bay, this piece is both functional and poetic.
Style it with the Coco Wrap Top, Sailor Pants, or Long Kimono—whether you're heading to the beach, studio, or sunset drinks.

Brittany Ferns is a visual artist based in Newcastle, Australia, known for her emotionally layered, cross-cultural approach to contemporary art. Born to a Uruguayan mother and Australian father, her work reflects a deep reverence for diversity, craftsmanship, and the natural world.
After years as a textile designer in the fashion industry in Los Angeles, Brittany shifted her focus to painting—bringing with her a refined eye for composition, texture, and detail. Her artistic voice matured during a transformative year living in Mexico and Guatemala with her husband and two children. Immersing herself in local traditions, she collaborated with artisan families and explored traditional weaving, dyeing, and storytelling techniques that now inform her visual language.
Today, Brittany’s practice blends fine art with handmade sensibility—layering Belgian linen, Japanese rice paper, textiles, plaster, and raw materials into richly textured narratives. Her work captures the fluid rhythm of everyday life through feminine symbolism, nature, and slow travel—always anchored in feeling, curiosity, and culture.
This collaboration with Øy Atelier reflects her artistic universe—soulful, exploratory, and intuitively layered—where every stroke carries a story and every piece invites deeper connection.

Øy Atelier is a family-run slow fashion brand rooted in Scandinavian design, island living, and the rhythm of the sea. Founded by Norwegian sisters Margrethe and Solveig Jacobsen Rosvoll—together with their mother, Anne—Øy reflects three generations of creativity, from their grandmother’s handcrafted traditions to their own surf-inspired designs.
We create timeless resortwear and accessories guided by what we feel, what we love, and how we live—shaped by our upbringing on Norwegian islands, our surf-shaped days in Bali, and the quiet joy of making something by hand. Each collection is an expression of coastal living and creative freedom, blending vintage silhouettes, Scandinavian minimalism, and a bohemian spirit shaped by the sea. Our pieces include soft cotton kimonos, sailor pants, bohemian wrap tops, and hand-crocheted surf hats—crafted slowly and sewn in small batches by women artisans in Seseh, using traditionally woven fabrics from Java.
Whether worn on coastal adventures or chosen as a meaningful gift, Øy pieces are made to be lived in, loved, and passed on. This is clothing and jewellery with soul—timeless, sun-warmed, and always connected to story. Designed for surfers, creatives, and coastal bohemians who dress with a quiet sense of freedom.
